Insta or Hipsta?

A different look at the horse farm on the route to work. The sunrise cast this great orange sherbert-ish glow over everything. Taken with a great new camera app on my iPhone. As soon as I loaded it, I used the panda on my desk as the subject of the first "test photo." And that's all it took. It was love. The app is called "Instagram." It's whimsical, artsy, easy to use, and totally FREE. Hipstamatic is still the love of my iPhone photo life, but Instagram has some perks that are hard to beat. The biggest selling point is that you don't have to take the photo in the app itself. You do have that option, but you can also pull an existing photo from your iPhoto and apply different filters to it after the fact. Which means that you don't have to wait for the phone app to open or commit to a lens or filter before you can take your photo. So it's much more flexible and forgiving. But with the greater variety of lenses and film with the Hipstamatic, there are more creative possibilities. But you can't lose either way. They're both awesome.

  1. Joe is obsessed with hipstamatic so I let him know about this app, too. You are always so full of knowledge. ;)

  2. Let me know what he thinks! It will seem like a photo version of Twitter when he first works with it, but he can adjust the privacy settings so that his photos won't flow into the feed. He doesn't have to do the "followers" or "following" stuff.
