The holiday season brought a new hobby: knitting. One of my mom's gifts was my first finished product, a scarf shown below. Mom can only be smiling because she knows it was made with more love than skill. I've made one more scarf and started another, but I will go back to jewelry as soon as it's finished. Knitting is hard!
On a random note, my favorite story from the holiday: mom and I went out for Chinese food and when we opened our fortune cookies, mom's was empty. Surprised, I asked the cashier what it meant. His response? "No news is good news."
Another random note, I loved, loved, LOVED this article in the Times, "Carpe Diem? Maybe Tomorrow". Basically it says that we all suffer from a form of procrastination that makes us put off enjoying life in favor of an ideal "some day" (procrastinator of pleasure, in social scientists' terms). The solution? Have fun now and make every occasion special. I'm not going to make any resolutions for next year (I'm still making progress on my 101 things list from last year), but I'm sure going to keep this in mind.

I love the scarf! I have never knitted but it's something I'd love to learn.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of instructional videos on YouTube, believe it or not. My boss taught me how to get started, but a YouTube video taught me how to finish the scarf. It was so much easier than trying to figure out an illustration!
